2004 Willie Kissane Annual Tournament

Leicester Celtic won the fourth annual Willie Kissane Invitation Tournament, which was held in the VEC grounds Terenure on Saturday August 7th and Sunday the 8th.
The tournament is held in memory of former VEC player Willie Kissane who passed away in 1997 at the age of 36 after a long illness. Willie had been involved with the VEC since 1982.
This is the second time for Leicester Celtic to claim “Willie’s Boot” having won the inaugural tournament in 2001. Other past winners have been CYM Terenure (2002) and VEC (2003).
Following the round robin section on Saturday Templeogue United and Knocklyon United topped their respective groups with maximum points. Sunday mornings semi-finals saw Templeogue United play Leicester Celtic and Knocklyon United play Terenure College.
Brian Kelly got the only goal of the game late on for Leicester Celtic when it looked as if the game was heading for penalties. Knocklyon United booked their place in the final with a 5-3-penalty shoot-out win; the game having ended scoreless.
The final was settled by the only goal of the game scored by Leicester Celtic's John Behan with only four minutes left on the clock. VEC FC chairman Noel Ryan presented “Willies Boot” to Leicester Celtics captain Dave McGee.
VEC football club wish to thank all those who took part in this years tournament, the ground staff in Terenure and the tournament referees Joe O'Hanlon, Tommy Doherty and Karl Nolan (All three former VEC players).
