2009 saw the 25th anniversary of Leicester Celtic winning the prestigious Amateur Cup, when Mick O'Brien's team beat Columbas Boys 4-3 in Tolka Park on a wet Friday night. Captain Tom Hughes collected the trophy from League Chairman, Jack Smith after an excellent game. The goals on the night for Leicester came from Paul Miley (a current Leicester Celtic Manager), Karl Malone (2) and a brilliant header from Tom Durran.

The team itself had been a schoolboy team with Leicester before deciding to stay together as Seniors and they were entered into the Amateur League. To win the Cup in their first attempt was an excellent achievement and Manager Mick O'Brien discribed it as "unbelievable" and said he was "delighted to win the Cup". This had been the team's third cup final in three years after they won the Morton Cup as under 19s and then were beaten in the Harding Cup the next year.

Coincidentally, as well as 2009 being the 25th anniversary of the Cup win, it also saw Mick's son Michael become a manager at the Club when he took charge of an under 7 side in the DDSL League. The club wish Michael and his team all the best in his debut season. Michael had played most of his Schoolboy football with Leicester before deciding to rejoin the Club as a manager.

The family connection does not end there, as Mick's other son, Ciaran O'Brien, who played with Leicester for several years, went on to represent Ireland in the IBSA European Football Championships for the partially sighted in Turkey in early 2008 and also in the IBSA World Futsal Championships in Argentina in November 2008.
