Broadford Rovers 3: Leicester Celtic 2

The match  kicked off in lovely sunshine on a poor pitch in this U19 local derby. Broadford were hoping to seek revenge following their loss in Loretto pk earlier in the season. Leicester started brightly but incredibly the usually  consistent David Gondry missed three 1 on 1's in the first 15 minutes.

Rovers took the lead after twenty minutes with a fine goal involving four Broadford players. The game was level on the half hour mark following a delightful 40 yard ball from the impressive Paul Byrne , it landed just 10 yards from goal and Gondry finally got off the mark.

Broadford take their chances.

Leicester dominated the possession and created chance after chance but failed to convert them into goals. The colorful Broadford keeper kept his team level with save after save. The  versatile "John O Shea " of Leicester - full back Neil Brehony overlapped and crossed superbly only to see further opportunities missed. As often happens in football , failure to take chances are punnished and Broadford scrambleded home a goal in a rare visit to the Leicester end. So dispite all the chances, its only the goals that count and the count at half time read Broadford  2: Leicester 1

The wind died , the day got colder but the game was only warming up. A defensive error by the Leicester back four let Broadford extend the lead and unlikely as it was ,Leicester were 3-1 down with 30 minutes to go.  An inspired substitution to bring on the stylish Craig Johnston Byrne reaped rewards within minutes. CJ as he is known to fans and friends scored one of the goals of the season , a dropping half volley , beautifully stuck with power and percision left the Broadford keeper helpless to set up a thrilling last 20 minutes.

Leicester pushed hard for the equaliser , the corner count read 8- 2 in favour of the away team , 10 shots on target , lots of great football , but it was not to be , the Broadford keeper was in great form and the neutrals ( hard to find on Derby Day) voted him Man of the Match. Our referee on the day had a fine game and let the game flow in this tough , competitive fixture.  Leicester will be pleased with the performance but dissapointed with the result , the statisics make for uncomfortable reading.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Reporter : Reggie Ball
